Innovation at Umahari

Solar energy is transforming the world, but much of today's technology depends on highly concentrated global manufacturing and supply chains. As countries race toward clean energy, India faces a strategic challenge—not just generating more solar power, but developing indigenous technologies that secure long-term energy independence.

At Umahari, innovation has always been driven by solving meaningful problems with science. While our core expertise has been in biotechnology and advanced research, we believe the next generation of sustainable technologies will emerge at the intersection of disciplines.

This vision has led us to initiate an ambitious renewable energy programme focused on developing an entirely new class of solar energy technology.

Our objective is simple: to create an Indian alternative that complements conventional solar panels while utilizing the vast thermal potential of sunlight that remains largely untapped today.

Thermal Energy

Exploring the untapped thermal component of sunlight to unlock new renewable energy possibilities.

Scientific Innovation

Combining biotechnology, engineering, thermodynamics and materials science into one research platform.

Made for India

Building indigenous technologies that strengthen India's long-term renewable energy independence.

A New Approach to Solar Energy

Conventional photovoltaic panels convert only part of the solar spectrum directly into electricity. A substantial portion of sunlight reaches every rooftop as heat before dissipating into the atmosphere.

Umahari's research team is exploring an innovative approach to convert this thermal energy into useful electrical power through an integrated engineering platform.

01

Advanced thermal energy capture and storage

02

A compact low-temperature micro energy conversion system

03

A next-generation solid-state electrical energy harvesting platform

Together, these technologies aim to create a highly integrated rooftop energy system capable of extracting useful energy from solar heat using an entirely different scientific approach.

The programme draws upon expertise from thermodynamics, materials science, precision engineering, MEMS, embedded electronics and advanced manufacturing.

Compatible with existing rooftop solar installations

03

Utilizes the thermal component of sunlight

04

Durable, repairable and designed for long service life

05

Built using materials suitable for scalable manufacturing

06

Fully recyclable and reusable at the end of its life

07

Reduced lifecycle cost through modular maintenance

08

Supports a circular manufacturing economy

09

Creates skilled employment through local manufacturing, servicing and refurbishment

10

Strengthens India's technological self-reliance in renewable energy

National Impact

Why This Matters

India has set ambitious renewable energy goals and is rapidly expanding rooftop solar installations across homes, institutions and industries. The next phase of this journey requires not only greater deployment but also greater technological ownership.

We believe future renewable energy technologies should be:

Renewable Energy India
01

Designed in India

02

Manufactured in India

03

Repaired in India

04

Recycled in India

By building an indigenous technology platform from the ground up, we hope to contribute to a future where clean energy also strengthens national capability, creates high-value employment, encourages innovation and reduces dependence on external technology ecosystems.

Looking Ahead

Building the Next Chapter

This programme represents more than the development of a new solar product. It is an investment in a new scientific platform with the potential to reshape how thermal energy from sunlight is utilized.

Our multidisciplinary team continues to collaborate with researchers, engineers, academic institutions and industry partners to accelerate development, validate performance and translate laboratory innovation into real-world impact.

The journey has begun, and we believe the next chapter of India's renewable energy story can be written through indigenous innovation, scientific excellence and a commitment to building technologies that are sustainable, repairable and globally relevant.
